Is ‘Missing Ladies’ a copy of this 25 year old film? Aamir Khan’s co-actor raised questions, said- ‘She disappeared from YouTube…’

New Delhi. ‘Missing Ladies’, released in the year 2024, was much discussed. The story of exchange of two brides because of the veil has settled in the hearts of the people. Many Bollywood stars have sung ballads in praise of the ‘missing ladies’. In this, stars like Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava and Ravi Kishan have played important roles. It has been produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Kiran Rao. Now famous filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan has claimed that many scenes of ‘Missing Ladies’ have been lifted from his movie ‘Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol’ (1999).

Anant Mahadevan has worked with Aamir Khan in films like ‘Ishq’, ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ and ‘Mann’. In a conversation with Mid Day, Ananth Mahadevan said, ‘I have seen Laphat Ladies and many scenes in it, including the beginning, are similar to our film. In our film, a boy from the city goes to his village to get married. There is also a disturbance at the railway station because of his veil, when he asks his new bride to sit on a bench and wait. When he comes back, he considers the other bride as his wife.

The scene of looking at the bride’s photo is a copy.
The filmmaker told that there is a scene in ‘Missing Ladies’, in which the policeman looks at the photo of the bride but because of the veil he cannot see her face. This scene is also in my film, but it is not a policeman but a character.
