The Supreme Court has stayed the release of Annu Kapoor’s much talked about film Hamare Barah after a hearing on June 13. The screening will remain banned until the case is resolved. This film was scheduled to release on June 14. The makers are accused of insulting Islamic customs and married Muslim women through this film.
The Supreme Court has passed this order against the decision of the Bombay High Court.
Actually, the film was earlier scheduled to release on 7 June. A person from Pune had filed a petition against the film. After which the Bombay High Court, after hearing both the parties, put a stay on the release of the film.
The next hearing on the film was held on June 10. In this hearing, the Bombay High Court cleared the way for the release of the film when the makers agreed to remove two dialogues from the film. While giving the verdict, the High Court said – Our decision is to bring equality. In such controversial cases, it is necessary to watch the film before giving the final decision.
After this decision of the court, the makers had announced the release of the film on June 14. Now the Supreme Court has passed an order against the decision of the Bombay High Court and banned the release of the film.
Court says- the teaser is objectionable
According to Live Law report, a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has ordered that the film will not be released until the Bombay High Court decides on the matter.
Justice Mehta called the film’s trailer objectionable and said- We have seen the trailer this morning. It is very objectionable.
what is the story of the film
The trailer of the film shows that women of a particular religion are being tortured in the name of religion. They are subjected to force and pressure is put on them to have children. In the film, Annu Kapoor has played the role of a Muslim man Mansoor Ali Khan, whose first wife dies while giving birth to a child and his second wife is pregnant for the sixth time. Doctors say that she may die in the pregnancy but Khan refuses to get an abortion. In such a situation, Khan’s elder daughter drags her father to court to save her stepmother and demands abortion for her mother.
Annu Kapoor had demanded security
The film ‘Humare Barah’ has been surrounded by controversies ever since the trailer and teaser were released. The actors of the film are also receiving death and rape threats. Meanwhile, Annu Kapoor had released a video and sought protection from Maharashtra Police and Home Ministry. In this connection, he also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday.
