Actor Gyanendra Tripathi, who has made a name for himself through Crime Patrol, web series Half CA and Chuna, has got a chance to play the lead role in the film ‘Barah Bai Barah’ for the first time. In this film released last week, the actor has played the role of a young man who takes pictures of the dead at Manikarnika Ghat in Banaras. Recently, during a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Gyanendra Tripathi told that he had paid for his education by distributing Dainik Bhaskar newspapers. And, he gave his first earnings to his mother.
Actor Gyanendra Tripathi’s film ‘Barah Bai Barah’ has been released in theatres after being appreciated in more than 40 film festivals. Gyanendra Tripathi’s work in this film is being highly appreciated. During the conversation, the actor talked about his inclination towards acting.
Everyone thought he would become an engineer
I was born in a village near Rewa. My father came to Bhopal to earn a living. I was two and a half to three years old at that time. I was brought up and educated in Bhopal. I used to get very good marks till 10th. I used to get 90 out of 100 marks in Maths. Everyone thought that I will become an engineer. At that time, I don’t understand what to do?
When I got ranked, I felt I wanted to become an actor
After 10th I felt that I did not like what I was studying. In college I started feeling that studying Physics and Chemistry was very difficult for me. My seniors in college were ranking me. Some would say introduce yourself as a monkey, while others would say something else. I don’t know why I started enjoying all these things. What people were calling a tamasha started becoming my identity. I myself started understanding that there is something in which I can be happy.
The family could not afford the institute fees
My parents are not very educated. They wanted their son to become a doctor or an engineer because this is what they saw around them. But my parents felt that whatever I do, I will do it right. I was paying for my education myself because at that time they were not capable enough to bear the expenses of my education. Meanwhile, I decided to go to Pune FTI and get a diploma in acting. But the fees of the institute were very high. My family could not afford it. First I found a job in Pune and then joined FTI.
The teachers had warned us in advance
Only 20 people from all over India are selected in FTI. Teachers warn you beforehand that no one is waiting for you in Mumbai. Do not go with this mindset at all, otherwise you may get disappointed. I also used to feel awkward in meeting people by mentioning the name of FTI. When people used to ask after the audition, then I used to feel good in telling them.
Started with Crime Patrol
In most auditions, I would get the answer of ‘not fit’. In the audition line, people who were more handsome and better dressed than me would stand first. I used to think that he should be in films. I thought I should change myself, but that would have been fake. I got my first chance in Crime Patrol and started with a small scene. But a time came when I became known for Crime Patrol.
Got recognition from Akshay Kumar’s film
I did a scene with Akshay Kumar in the film ‘Gabbar is Back’. There was a sequence inside the hospital in which my wife has already died and I am being made to pay money. That scene went viral. I got a lot of recognition from this scene.
I gave my first income to my mother
For the first time in acting, I got Rs. 2500 for working in Crime Patrol. That money was spent. But I gave my first earnings to my mother. When I was studying in Bhopal, I used to distribute Bhaskar newspapers. I used to get Rs. 450 per month. I gave my first earnings to my mother.
