Celina Jaitley has recently expressed her anger over the Kolkata rape and murder case. Talking about the abuse she faced in her childhood, the actress said that it is always the victim’s fault.
Recently Celina Jaitley shared a picture of her 6th class on her X account (earlier Twitter) and wrote, “It is always the victim’s fault. I was in 6th class in this picture. This was the time when boys from the nearby university used to wait outside my school. They used to follow my school rickshaw and pass comments all the way. I used to pretend to ignore them. After a few days those boys started throwing stones at me in the middle of the road to get my attention. But no onlooker ever raised his eyes.”
Selini further writes, when I told this to my teacher, she said that it is because I am too westernized, I do not wear loose clothes and do not apply oil to my hair and tie it in two plaits. It is my fault. This was the same age when while waiting for the school rickshaw, a man showed me his private part. Thinking my teacher’s words again and again in my mind, I blamed myself for this for many years that it is my fault.
When I was in class 11, I still remember that the brake wire of my scooty was cut just because I did not pay attention to a boy from the university, who used to leave obscene letters in my scooty and call me by dirty names. When my male classmates, scared, told everything to the teacher, the teacher called me and said, you are a forward type of girl, you keep your short hair open, you come to extra class wearing jeans, that is why boys think that you are a loose character.
Further, Selina wrote, it was always my fault. I remember that I had to jump off the moving scooty to save myself when the brake wire of the scooty broke. I was badly hurt and even then it was my fault. My scooty was broken. I was physically and psychologically hurt. But I was told that it was my fault. My retired Colonel Nana Ji, who had fought two wars for the country in his old age, took me back to school. I remember that the boys who damaged the scooty would still follow me, make lewd comments on my elderly Nana Ji. One day Nana kept staring at him and then shook his head. I could read his face while walking with him. He was feeling disgusted thinking that he had put his life at stake. Now the time has come for us to stand up to protect our rights. It is not our fault.
