New Delhi. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan became a superstar in the 70s. The film ‘Zanjeer’ released in 1973 brought him immense fame. This film was directed by Prakash Mehra. After the huge success of ‘Zanjeer’, Amitabh Bachchan never looked back and gave one superhit film after another at the box office. That was a period when the pairing of Prakash Mehra and Amitabh Bachchan was a superhit. Both of them had worked together for the film ‘Sharabi’, which was much talked about. Amitabh Bachchan’s style in the film had become a trend in those days.
The film ‘Sharabi’, released in 1984, has completed 40 years. In this, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a drunkard named Vicky. This movie was actually a complicated story of father-son relationship. Amitabh Bachchan’s style in ‘Sharabi’ became quite popular where he acts with his hand in his pant pocket. Actually, nothing like this was in the script of the film. Amitabh Bachchan’s hand got burnt due to bursting of firecrackers during Diwali. He completed the shooting of the film with Jale Haath, which later became a popular style.
Hand injury had become a style
Jaya Prada was seen opposite Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Sharabi’. He had told in the popular TV show Indian Idol that Amitabh Bachchan’s hand was burnt, but as a matter of style, he kept that hand in his pocket and shot the song De De Pyar De with a handkerchief. Some time ago, Amitabh Bachchan had also tweeted a post saying, ‘My hand was badly injured due to a bomb explosion during Diwali. It took me two months to even move my thumb towards my finger.

How did the idea of the film ‘Sharabi’ come about?
Amitabh Bachchan had told on his blog that he was going from New York to Trinidad with Prakash Mehra. Both were in flight. Then Prakash Mahera had suggested him that a film should be made on the relationship between father and son, in which the son is an alcoholic. In this way the film was conceived at an altitude of about 35,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean.
