New Delhi: Imtiaz Ali is loved by the audience for making films like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Jab We Met’. He has again won accolades with the film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. He has been portraying the issues related to society in his films with great sensitivity. Now he has drawn attention by expressing his opinion on the Bhagavad Gita and the Rig Veda. In an interview, he told what effect he had after reading these two holy texts of Hinduism.

Imtiaz had read the Bhagavad Gita and the Rigveda at a very young age. Even today, the Bhagavad Gita is kept on his table. The director told that he was reading a book in which the mantras of creation of the Rigveda were given at the beginning. He was very impressed by it. He said in Ranveer Allahabadia’s podcast, ‘I could not move forward without reading it. I came to know what it means. The Bhagavad Gita is also an important book in my life.’

When Imtiaz bought the Bhagavad Gita from the railway station
Imtiaz further says, ‘When I was in class 6, I was travelling alone by train and I had very little money in my pocket. The irony is that I had only enough money to buy Bhagavad Gita from the railway station. I also thought that people around me would find it strange and would be surprised to see me reading it.’ The director said that when he was reading Bhagavad Gita, he was surprised to know how easy it was to understand.

Imtiaz finally said, ‘There were some things that I read 10 times to understand, but I understood them. I used to read a few pages of Bhagavad Gita every day. Now it has gone deep into me. I am lucky that I got to read all this at a young age. It made it easier for me to understand people because of this. I have also read other religious books. They were interesting and fun.
