The name of the movie we are talking about is ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.

India’s highest grossing film
Dilip Kumar and Madhubala played the lead roles in ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, directed by K Asif. In that era, this movie earned around 10 crores and proved to be the highest grossing film of the year. If compared to today’s inflation, the total collection of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ is Rs 3650 crores and interestingly, no Indian film has earned so much till date.

More tickets were sold than ‘Jawaan’ and ‘RRR’
In 1960, the most expensive movie tickets were priced at Rs 1.50. Today, the average ticket price is more than Rs 200. According to Box Office India, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ sold 10 crore tickets across the country, which is much more than Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s ‘RRR’ (4.4 crores) and Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’ (3.9 crores). There are only two films whose tickets were sold more than ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ in India, their names are ‘Sholay’ and ‘Bahubali’.

The name of this cult classic film is at number two
After ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, the second position is occupied by ‘Sholay’, whose earnings are Rs 2800 crore worldwide as per today’s rates. Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ is in third place with a collection of Rs 2650 crore. Apart from this, there are four other films which cross the 2000 crore mark according to inflation, which include ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’ (2170 crores), ‘Mother India’ (2120 crores), ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ (2100 crores), and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (2000 crores).

Let us tell you that ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ was a period-drama film, in which it was shown that Mughal prince Salim rebels against his father and emperor Akbar because of the courtesan Anarkali.
