Bitter news for all British MotoGP fans: Yamaha test rider Cal Crutchlow will not be able to take part in his planned wildcard appearance at the British Grand Prix in early August, he is out due to injury. The Japanese manufacturer from Iwata announced this late on Monday evening on its social media channels.
Crutchlow was actually supposed to have made his second of three wildcard starts in the 2024 MotoGP season in Silverstone. The first wildcard appearance was planned for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello, which was followed directly by the Mugello test on the following Monday. An ideal time to use a wildcard. But Crutchlow was unable to start even then.
Hand injury costs Cal Crutchlow participation in MotoGP home race
The 38-year-old Brit had been suffering from pain in his right hand for some time and subsequently underwent surgery. However, complications arose that severely affected the planned healing process. After the cancellation of the Mugello wildcard, this same hand injury now costs Crutchlow his first participation in his home GP since late summer 2019.
Unlike in Mugello, however, Yamaha will not completely forego a wildcard entry this time. Rather, Remy Gardner will once again be used as a substitute and will pilot the third Yamaha M1 in Silverstone. The 2021 Moto2 champion had already represented regular driver Alex Rins at the last German GP at the Sachsenring and made a good impression.

The former Suzuki and Honda rider had a heavy highside crash at the Dutch TT and injured his right ankle and wrist. An operation was necessary, which meant that he was unable to start in Germany. However, with the announcement of the Gardner wildcard, it can now be assumed that Rins will probably be back in the mix in Silverstone.
At the British GP, Yamaha will not be the only one to compete in special colors. Rather, each of the eleven MotoGP teams will be racing with a special livery. You can find all the information in the following article:
