Aron Canet celebrates sensational pole position despite ankle surgery

What a devil of a man Aron Canet is! Two weeks ago the Spaniard broke his ankle in Jerez and had to miss his home race. At Le Mans he races to pole position and later crashes. Joe Roberts and Sergio Garcia confirmed their strong form at Le Mans and secured the front row of the grid.

Albert Arenas, Alonso Lopez and Manuel Gonzalez start from row two. The top ten is completed by Izan Guevara, Senna Agius, Filip Salac and Tony Arbolino. World Cup favorite Fermin Aldeguer doesn’t get past twelfth place on the grid at Le Mans. Further

This is how the Moto2 qualifying went:

The following pilots competed in the first qualifying: Masia, Navarro, Moreira, Binder, Cardelus, Sasaki, Guevara, Artigas, Canet, Öncü, Foggia, Agius, van den Goorbergh.

Aron Canet finished the first round as fastest. His broken ankle two weeks ago doesn’t seem to be stopping him from earning a good starting position. Zonta van den Goorbergh, Darry Binder and Jaume Masia currently occupy the other promotion places for Q2.

Van den Goorbergh now pushes past Canet and takes the lead. Senna Agius and Izan Guevara also improved their times and moved into the top four.

In the final minutes there are no more fast times. Van den Goorbergh remains at the top and moves into Q2 together with Canet, Agius and Guevara. Darryn Binder, Jaume Masia and Diogo Moreira miss out on Q2 and have to be content with starting positions 19, 20 and 21.

Manuel Gonzalez lapped the Bugatti Circuit fastest on the first attempt, but his lap time was canceled due to the yellow flags in sector four. This means Alonso Lopez is the new leader ahead of Izan Guevare and Aron Canet. Fermin Aldeguer aborted his first hotlap after a driving error.

Aron Canet is doing incredible things! The ailing Spaniard sets a new best time and scratches the 34 times. Joe Roberts follows him but can’t beat his time. Sergio Garcia also moved into third place on the front row.

Now Canet falls too! He limps out of the gravel bed. Aldeguer and Arenas attack again. Will Canet keep his pole position?

It remains! Aron Canet takes pole position with a sensational performance. Joe Roberts and Sergio Garcia share the front row with him. Albert Arenas, Alonso Lopez and Manuel Gonzalez start from row two.

Falls and incidents:

Marcos Ramirez crashed in the last corner on the first fast lap in Q2. Luckily he was uninjured.

Jake Dixon also crashed over the front wheel in the last combination of corners. Meanwhile, there are disagreements between Tony Arbolino and Barry Baltus. Both complain about the other with wild arm movements. The stewards will look at it after the session.

Ai Ogura has technical problems a few minutes before the end, he has to stop leaving the pits and push his bike back.

Senna Agius falls in sector two but remains uninjured. Curious: After the session, Albert Arenas and Filip Salac collide with each other. Salac holds his hand. Hopefully he didn’t suffer any injuries.
