Ramoji established Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest film studio in Hyderabad.
Media personality and chairman of Ramoji Group, Ramoji Rao passed away on Saturday morning at 4:50 am. He breathed his last at the Star Hospital in Hyderabad at the age of 87. Ramoji was admitted in the ICU since June 5. He was suffering from heart related problems.
Ramoji Rao’s body has been kept at his residence in Ramoji Film City. Here his family, friends and fans will pay their last respects to him. The Telangana government has announced to cremate Ramoji Rao with state honors.
Ramoji Rao was a big name in the field of media. He founded the Ramoji Group in 1962, which includes Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest film studio in Hyderabad, Usha Kiran Movies, Mayuri Film Distributors, Margdarshi Chit Fund and Dolphin Group of Hotels.
Ramoji also headed the television channels of ETV Network and the Telugu newspaper Eenadu. Ramoji was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award, in 2016 for his contribution to journalism, literature and education.
Film director S.S. Rajamouli, music composer M.M. Keeravani, actor Jr. NTR paid their last respects to Ramoji Rao at his residence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of Ramoji Rao. He posted a photo of himself with him on Twitter and wrote- Ramoji Rao’s death is extremely sad. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. He has left an indelible mark on the world of journalism and film.
He set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world. Ramoji Rao was passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have had many opportunities to interact with him.
Ramoji’s son died of leukemia in 2012
Ramoji Rao’s full name was Cherukuri Ramoji Rao. He was born on 16 November 1936 in a farmer family in Pedaparapudi village of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He is called Rupert Murdoch of India. Ramoji had cancer a few years ago. However, he was completely cured after treatment.
Ramoji is survived by his wife Rama Devi and son Kiran. Kiran is the head of Eenadu Publication Group and ETV channels. Ramoji’s younger son Cherukuri Suman died of leukemia on 7 September 2012.
15-25 films can be shot simultaneously in Ramoji Film City
Ramoji Film City is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest film studio complex. It was established by Ramoji Rao in 1996 at Abdullapurmet on Nalgonda Road, 25 km from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.
This studio is spread over an area of more than 2000 acres. This studio has 50 shooting floors. 15 to 25 films can be shot here simultaneously. All the facilities from pre-production to post-production of the film are available at one place in the Film City.
Apart from film production, Ramoji Film City is also a famous tourist destination. More than one million people come here every year to visit.
