She said, “I came from Delhi anyway, so Bombay is a difficult city to get into initially. Every three months, I felt like packing my bags and leaving. I was educated, I used to say, ‘I will go and do my PhD. I can’t handle this. But Bombay is such a city, I thought chal chal rahe hain toh tonight ki koi work karne rahe hain. It happened not once but many times.”

‘I did dirty roles for money’
Her journey has been inspiring, but it has had its ups and downs. The actress says that she is finally at a place in her life where she can say no to roles. She said, “It has changed from ‘Hisab ki zaarat hai’. Earlier it was important to have money. To earn more money, one had to do very bad things. Many times I would pray to God that this picture should not be released. But today I can say no to such roles, which I never could before.” She said that today I do the scripts that I like very much, the roles that I like very much, I don’t do those that I don’t like.

Neena Gupta said that she was given titles like ‘bold’ and ‘rebel star’, but I do not agree with it. She said that I don’t know why they call me rebel? I have also played the role of a poor person. At the same time, I have not done a strong role or a glamorous role. I think they say this because the media has created an image of me because I am a single mother. She mentioned an interview and said, in an interview I was saying that when I die, they will come and say, ‘Bold Neena Gupta is no more, they will not leave me even then. So okay, it does not matter to me’.

While talking to Bollywood Life, Neena Gupta told what changed after her post asking for work? She said, ‘My post became a huge hit, but even after that I did not get work. I got only small roles, which I used to get earlier as well. My life changed completely after ‘Badhaai Ho’. I did not get work from this post, all I got was scandalous type of fame. But I got work after ‘Badhaai Ho’.’ Let us tell you that Neena Gupta played the role of a middle-aged woman in the film ‘Badhaai Do’, who gets pregnant. She has to face a lot of embarrassment for being the mother of a 25-year-old boy and getting pregnant at a middle age. In the film, Neena’s son’s role was played by Ayushmann Khurrana and her husband was played by Gajraj Rao.
