New Delhi. Sonali Bendre is in the headlines these days for the web series ‘The Broken News’. The actress said that language was a big challenge for her while working in the film industry, and at that time she felt that she should also socialize a little more with the film team members.

Speaking to IANS, the actress said, ‘We did not say pan-India in the 1990s, we used to make different films only in the states. I have done a film in Marathi cinema, ‘Anahat’. This was a wonderful story. I have done a wonderful Tamil film, it was an internet based love story. That was a time when people used to go to cyber cafes. I have also done Kannada films and Telugu films. Most of all, I enjoyed working in Telugu cinema. They are very nice people.

Sonali Bendre further said, ‘The feeling of creativity, satisfaction after a good day’s work, is the same on all film sets. I think the only difference is the language. Unfortunately, I did not know all the languages and could not interact much with people on the sets of those films. I knew the meaning of the words, but I was very nervous to speak the language easily and confidently. It was like four times more work for me than Hindi cinema.

‘Sarfarosh’, in which she appeared opposite Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, emerged as a game-changer in Hindi cinema. Due to its interesting story and excellent casting, it still has its own place in the hearts of the audience. Talking about her fondest memories from the film, the actress said that there were times when she felt like, ‘Are we shooting a documentary?’ But, his character in the film made him believe that it was a completely commercial film.

The actress further said, ”Sarfarosh’ is a very special film, especially because of director John Mathew Mathen, John and I had worked extensively in advertising films. At times we felt like, ‘Are we making a documentary?’ But, it was the music and bonding between my and Aamir Khan’s characters in the film, which strengthened our belief that we are making a commercial Bollywood film.

He said that as we all know that Aamir is a perfectionist and it is a good experience to share the screen with him. Sonali further said, ‘At a time when Hindi films were doing just fine despite the constraints of logistics and time, ‘Sarfarosh’ stood out as a film that revolutionized the way films were made and stories were told on celluloid. Changed the attitude of cinema in this matter.
